New Balance Bison Fun Run/Walk results

More than 50 runners and walkers helped support the McCook High School cross-country teams in the 2010 New Balance McCook Bison 5K Challenge.

The 5K race was held Saturday, July 31, on city streets near the Red Willow County Fairgrounds in the northwest part of McCook. The event was held in conjunction with the 2010 Red Willow County Fair and sponsored by Brown Shoe Fit Co. in downtown McCook.

Benkelman runner Jared Shillington topped the field, as he turned in the fastest overall time of 16 minutes flat over the approximate 3.2-mile course. Shillington, competing in the men's 13-20 age group, is a member of the Fort Hays (Kansas) State University men's cross-country and track and field teams.

Bison star fastest female

McCook High School running standout Jessa Sughroue recorded the fastest time in the female division. Sughroue, competing in the female ages 13-20 division, was timed in 20 minutes, 46 seconds over the 3.2-mile course.

Maclane Scott of McCook finished second overall in the male division with a time of 18:26. Stacy Priebe of McCook was third overall in the male division at 19:16.

Veronica Bair of Culbertson was second overall in the female division at 22:14., and Molly Sughroue of McCook ran third overall in the female division at 23:02.

Race officials said nearly $1,000 was raised in support of the Bison cross-country teams. A total of 31 male runners, 20 female runners and two walkers participated.
