SCOTT CITY, Kansas -- Patrick B. O'Dea, age 71, died Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas.

He was born Jan. 27, 1939, in Indianola, Nebraska, the son of Harold F. and Elizabeth Hanthorne O'Dea. A resident of Scott City since August of 2009 moving from North Platte, Nebraska, he had been an office clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad.

On Sept. 7, 1957, he married Alice J. Gerver in Oberlin, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of North Platte and was a U.S. Air Force veteran, belonging to the VFW.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bob O'Dea of Scott City, Mike O'Dea of North Platte, and Scott O'Dea of Kimble, Nebraska; two daughters, Val Karel of Redding, California and Betty Cummins of Olathe, Kansas; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Santos Lopez.

Funeral services will be Tuesday,10:30 a.m., at the Community Christian Church in Scott City with the Rev. Troy Schroeder presiding.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.

There will be no calling times at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Patrick O'Dea Memorial Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
