Gerald O. Dewey

TRENTON, Nebraska -- Gerald Otis Dewey, 79, died Friday (June 18, 2010) at the El Dorado Manor Home in Trenton.
He was born June 20, 1930, in LeRoy, Nebraska, the son of the late Harry A. and Edith M. (Philleo) Dewey. He grew up in the Hastings area where he received his education.
On Jan. 3, 1951 he entered the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean conflict.
In January 1953 he married Arlene Weiss in Hastings. To this union, three daughters were born, Twila Yost, Teresa Lynn Peters and Dawn Kay Campbell.
In October 1965 Gerald married Mable Phelps in Trenton where they made their home for many years.
He was an engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired and then drove for MNX Express of St. Joseph, Missouri until his health failed. He owned and operated four welding and machine shops. His hobby was gemology and he cut and polished gem stones and fashioned many jewelry pieces.
He was a member of the VFW Post 7029 in Ord, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Arlene Dewey; daughter, Twila Yost; and a great grandson, Mark Wittwer.
He is survived by his wife, Mable Dewey of Trenton; 10 grandchildren and great grandchildren; two daughters, Teresa Lynn Peters and Dawn Kay Campbell, both of Lincoln, Nebraska; a special cousin, Eugene Peak and wife, Kathryn of Ayr, Nebraska; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were today at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Trenton with the Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Trenton Cemetery. Memorials may be given in his name and visitation will be at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton.
