ATWOOD, Kansas -- Anne Jeanette Ratcliff Schalker, 72, died at her home on Tuesday (June 15, 2010) in Atwood.

She was born Feb. 13, 1938 in Atwood. She was the younger daughter of Dewey and Ona Mae Ratcliff. She studied piano and flute at the Juilliard School of Music and graduated in 1962 with a degree in piano performance.

She married David Schalker in New York in 1963 and spent much of her life in Minnesota and served for seven years as an administrative assistant in the state legislature. She returned to live in Atwood in 2001 and was active in many community organizations including the Atwood Music and Drama Club, Chapter AX Philanthropic Educational Organization, and the United Methodist Church. She also served as a member of the board of directors for the Rawlins County Health Center.

She is survived by her three children, Steven David Schalker, 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Company, Camp Pendleton, California; Jeffrey Edwin Schalker of Virginia, Minnesota; and Kimberly Anne Schalker of St. Cloud, Minnesota; her sister, Jane Ratcliff of El Paso, Texas; two nephews; and cousins.

Funeral services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Gary Davison officiating. Interment will take place at Atwood Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday until to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Rawlins County Health Center, the Atwood Music and Drama Club scholarship fund, or the Atwood United Methodist Church.
