Kenneth Eldon Maaske

ATWOOD, Kansas -- Kenneth Eldon Maaske, 76, died June 11, 2010 in Atwood.
He is the second oldest of four children, born to Emmett and Ella (Heller) Maaske on Aug. 14, 1933, south of Oxford, Nebraska. He attended school at Oxford and graduated with the class of 1950 from Oxford High School.
Ken married W. June Boatman on Dec. 4, 1954 at the Boatman farm south of Almena, Kansas. Two children were born to this union, Jeri and Mike.
Ken served in the Army, assigned to the Air Force as a cook, from May of 1953 to February of 1956.
During his working years, he worked in the grocery meat cutting business, beginning as a carryout at the age of 11. He retired in 1982 as a meat cutter. He worked for Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas for ten years before he retired from there in 1993.
He was a member of the Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Atwood and a member of the American Legion Sam Hubbard post No. 46 of Atwood.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Cletus; and a son in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, June of the home; daughter, Jeri and husband, Duane Rahe of Ludell, Kansas; son, Mike Maaske and wife, Denise of Atwood; brother, Keith Maaske and wife, Barbara of Arapahoe, Nebraska; sister, Carol and husband, Eldon Gibson of Holdrege, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Rex and wife, Coralie Boatman of Manhattan, Kansas; two grandsons; and nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were today at 10:30 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Atwood with the Rev. Don White officiating. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials can be addressed in his name to Redeemer Lutheran Church and Rawlins County Health Center.
