ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Vera Faye Lewis, 92, died Wednesday (June 9, 2010) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska.

She was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Arapahoe to Merle and Ann (Jacobson) Adams.

She was a lifelong resident of Arapahoe. She graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of '34. Following graduation she attended Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney. She taught county school for four years at the Dunbar School House.

She married Donald Lewis on June 8, 1938 in Arapahoe. They farmed in the Arapahoe area until the early '70s at which time they moved into Arapahoe. She moved to Good Samaritan Assisted Living in January of 2010.

She was a 4-H Club member in younger years, later being a leader and also belonging to the council. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Arapahoe and taught Sunday school for a number of years. She belonged to Methodist Women, PEO Chapter CE of Arapahoe and was also a member of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by husband, Donald on Feb. 18, 1991; parents; two brothers, Merle and Don Adams; and infant granddaughter.

Survivors include her son, Dale Lewis and wife, Nancy of Fulton, Missouri; daughter, Donna and husband, Kenneth Torbeck of Deshler, Nebraska; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Mike Flury and the Rev. Melody Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Arapahoe Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services Friday at the church.
