LaVonna "Arlene" Fewell

EDISON, Nebraska -- LaVonna "Arlene" Fewell, age 80, of Rural Edison, Nebraska died Wednesday (June 2, 2010) as a result of car-train accident east of Edison, Nebraska.
She was born Sept. 2, 1929 in Phelps County, Nebraska to Leon and Martha (Strom) Shield. She grew up in the Altanta, Nebraska area. She graduated from high school at Mascot, Nebraska with the class of '47.
She married Frank Fewell on Sept. 19, 1947 in Holdrege, Nebraska. They farmed in Furnas County all their married lives.
She was a member of the Christian Church at Edison where she was the Sunday school teacher for about 30 years as well as being the ladies aid at the church. She also belongs to the American Legion Auxiliary in Arapahoe, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Kenneth Shield, Harold Shield and Eldon Shield.
Survivors include her husband, Frank of Edison; one daughter: Martha "Marty" and husband, Bob Mitchell of Edison; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in Edison with the Rev. Kirk Einspahr and the Rev. Fred Applegarth officiating. Burial will follow at Edison Cemetery.
Viewing and visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe, Nebraska.
