OBERLIN, Kansas -- The Rev. Wilbur T. May, 88, died Thursday (May 27, 2010), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born Feb. 28, 2010 to Theodore and Frieda (Voelker) May and raised on a farm northwest of Oberlin. He attended St. John's Seminary in Wichita, Kansas and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.

On April 9, 1950, he married LuVerne Bode in India. The couple lived most of their lives together in California. They lived in San Francisco, Chico, and Gridley before eventually moving to oberlin in 1999.

He was a Lutheran minister and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Frieda May; and his wife LuVerne May on April 13, 2005.

Survivors include his two sons, Jim May and wife, Mitzi of Oberlin, and John May and wife, Karen Kupka of Lummi Island, Washington; brother, Walter May and wife, Betty of Oberlin; two sisters, Lois and husband, Arnold Behrmann, of Orange, California, and Lillian and husband, Art Rutsch of Vista, California; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services were at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin on Tuesday with the Rev. Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. The interment followed at the Oberlin Cemetery.
