John "Allan" Prestes

McCOOK, Nebraska -- John "Allen" Prestes, 71, died Sunday (May 30, 2010), at his home in McCook, Nebraska.
He was born on March 4, 1939, in Sundance, Wyoming, to John P. and Edna (Partlow) Prestes. He graduated from Wheeler County High School, in Bartlett,Nebraska in 1957. He attended Kearney State College.
He entered the U.S. Navy on Feb. 25, 1959. He was honorably discharged from active duty into the reserves and served until Feb. 21, 1963.
On May 22, 1964, he was united in marriage to June D. Cox in Paxton, Nebraska. To this union three children were born.
Allen and his family relocated to McCook in 1966 where he was employed by TRW. He was also employed for a time at Miller Weeder in Stratton, Nebraska and Wilcox Well Drilling. In 1985, he started working in production at Dayco. He retired in 2003 after 18 years of service.
He was a member of the McCook Eagle's Club, APA Pool League, and past-member of the McCook Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and playing pool. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and special buddies Al Garcia and the late Lawrence Peres.
Preceding him in death was his father, John Prestes.
Survivors include his wife, June Prestes, of McCook; mother, Edna Prestes of Broken Bow, Nebraska; son, Jay Prestes and wife, Lorie of McCook; daughters, Tammy and husband, David Downey of Indianola, Nebraska, and Brenda and husband, Mark Bishop of Rudy, Arkansas; one sister, Linda and husband, Jim Reiter of Dunning, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Jay Robert Prestes, Jr., Chase, Cody and Cole Downey, and Kayla and Alek Bishop; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Mike Searcey officiating. Burial will be in McCook with a military honor guard.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
