McCOOK, Nebraska -- John P. Wallace, Jr., age, 75, died Thursday (May 20, 2010), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.
He was born Dec. 24, 1934, to John P. and Lillie M. (Clark) Wallace, Sr. in McCook, Nebraska.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 21, 1953. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 20, 1956.
He married Pauline Delores Leiter in McCook on Dec. 31, 1960.
He later married Loretta June Leiter in Stapleton, Nebraska on Sept. 30, 1989.
He was baptized in June 2004 at the Berean Church in Gandy, Nebraska.
He worked 32 years at Stevens Bottling Company. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing and calling bingo, spending time at casinos, reading his Bible, operating concession stands at the ball fields, and he loved his dogs, Sam and Luvs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pauline in 1980, and second wife, Loretta in 2004; three brothers, Tom Wallace, Alfred Wallace, and Gary Wallace; and three sisters, Helen Shepherd, Dorothy Minary, and Edna Judd.
He is survived by his two sons, J. P. Wallace and wife, Deb of McCook, and Darren Wallace of McCook; brother, Richard Wallace and wife, Mary Lou of Lyons, Colorado; two brothers-in-law, Wilbur Allen of Stapleton and Lee Leiter of Louisiana; sister-in-law, Carolyn Wallace of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be today until 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
