Gerald W. 'Butch' Atterberry

ELWOOD, Nebraska -- Gerald W. "Butch" Atterberry, 62, died Wednesday (May 12, 2010), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.
He was born July 6, 1947, at Lexington, Nebraska to Allie and Betty J. (Snider) Atterberry. He attended school at Lexington High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. He went on to McCook Junior College, McCook, Nebraska and received his Associates Degree.
He was drafted into the U.S. Marines and served from 1969 to 1971 in Vietnam. After his discharge from service, he went back to school at Kearney State College and graduated in 1975 with his business degree. He worked for Banks Clothing, at Lexington, Nebraska in retail sales for many years.
On Oct. 21, 1977, he married Maria M. Bliven at Pierre, South Dakota. They made their home in Lexington until 1998. They then moved to Elwood. In 2003, he went to work for Walmart, in Lexington.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, in Lexington, and was a member and former Commander for the American Legion Post No. 290 of Elwood.
He was preceded in death by parents, and sister Judy Brummett.
Survivors include his wife Maria Atterberry of Elwood; Daughters: Danielle and husband, Benjamin Clouse of Maxwell, Nebraska, Alison Atterberry of Kearney, Nebraska, Nicole Atterberry of Elwood, and Megan and husband Wayco Oaklund of Bertrand, Nebraska; and five grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at the St. Ann's Catholic Church, in Lexington with the Rev. Paul Colling, officiating. Interment will be at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, in Lexington. Military rites to be given by American Legion Post No. 290 of Elwood.
Rosary will be Friday, 7 p.m., at St. Ann's Catholic Church, in Lexington.
Viewing and visitation is Friday until 4 p.m., at Elwood Funeral Home in Elwood.
