ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Maxine A. Mues, 90, died Saturday (May 1, 2010), at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, of Arapahoe, Nebraska.
She was born on Jan. 28, 1920, at Hollinger, Nebraska to Lon and Maude E. (Oatman) VanMatre.
She grew up in the Hollinger, Nebraska area and attended Beaver City High School and graduated with the class of 1937. She taught for a country school northeast of Beaver City, Nebraska for a year.
On Nov. 5, 1938, she married Donald E. Mues on Nov. 5, 1938, at Oberlin, Kansas. They lived in Edison, Nebraska and Hull, Iowa. They then farmed in the Arapahoe and Edison area for 54 years. In 1960 they made their home in Arapahoe. On July 6, 2003, Donald died. In 2007, she moved to the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, in Arapahoe.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Arapahoe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; a son, David Mues; a brother, James VanMatre; and sisters Zelpha Wright, Ladye Parker and Francis Rhinhart.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen and husband, Norman Lewis of Edison, Nebraska; a daughter-in-law, Shari Mues of Arapahoe; twin sister, Pauline Knudsen of Lincoln, Nebraska and husband, Meredith Knudsen of Cambridge, Nebraska; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Arapahoe, with the Rev. Jami Anderson, officiating. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.
Visitation is Tuesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. The casket will be closed at the visitation and before the service at the church.
