SELDEN -- Donald Ira Wasson, 87, died Thursday (April 8, 2010) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

He was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Decatur County to Ira Wasson and Dolly Brainard. He grew up on the family farm in Bassetville Township of Decatur County. He attended Vickers School, Selden Rural High School and graduated in 1941 from Decatur Community High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On May 14, 1947, he married Maxine Anderson and resided on the family farm in Dacatur County.

He was a farmer and a member of Lund Covenant Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Wasson; his parents, Ira M. and Dolly Wasson; three brothers-in-law, Cleland Sloan, LeRoy Schmidt and Frode Fischer; and grandson, Jacob Wasson.

Survivors include two sons, Dan and wife, Carol of Selden and Jim and wife, Laurie of Oberlin; two sisters, Doris Sloan and Daisy Schmidt, both of Oberlin; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are today, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Interment to follow at Lund Covenant Cemetery in rural Oberlin.

Visitation is today, 8 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to the Oberlin library.
