Charles Willard Vandruff

BEAVER CITY -- Charles Willard Vandruff, 81, formerly of Arapahoe, died Friday (March 19, 2010) at the Beaver Manor in Beaver City.
He was born on Feb. 2, 1929, at Holbrook to Charles A. and Esther M. (Grannis) Vandruff. He grew up north of Holbrook where he attended grade school and graduated from Holbrook High School with the Class of 1947. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in Kearney with a bachelor's degree in social science. He then taught for two years in Gosper County.
He joined the Marine Corp during the Korean War in November of 1953. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before he was honorably discharged.
He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and later taught social sciences at Cozad High School in Cozad. After his father retired, he took over the family farm until his retirement. In 2009, he moved to the Beaver City Manor, in Beaver City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sister, Arla Yost of Lakewood, Colo.; two nephews and one cousin.
Graveside services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Arapahoe Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Viewing and visitation will be Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
