BEAVER CITY -- Helen L. Taylor, 90, of Kearney, formerly of Stamford and Beaver City area died Wednesday (Feb. 17, 2010) at St. John's Center in Kearney.
She was born Aug. 13, 1919, at Precept to William David and Rachel (Marble) Perkins. Her mom died early in her life and she was raised by her dad, granddad and a aunt. She attended District 9 Country School in Furnas County and graduated from Beaver City High School with the class of 1937. She attended Hastings Teachers College at Hastings for two years and she taught Country School for several years.
On Dec. 20, 1941, she married Cecil Taylor at Hill City, Kan. They farmed in Furnas County and the Precept area until retirement in 1998 when they moved to Kearney.
She accepted the Lord as her savior at a young age. She belonged to Precept Community Church until the church closed and then transferred to Evangelical Free Church at Stamford. Her family was very important to her as well as gardening, reading and flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil on May 13, 2006; her parents; one sister, Marie Davis; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Survivors include two sons, Elvin and wife, Joyce Taylor of Syracuse, Richard and wife, Connie Taylor of Stamford; four daughters, Joyce and husband, Clair Holmes of Hershey, Dorothy and husband, Gene Beck of Knoxville, Tenn., Arlene and husband, Jim Cross of North Platte, Leta and husband, Dennis Grothen of Hastings; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at The First Christian Church in Beaver City with Pastor John Sievering officiating. Burial will follow at Precept Cemetery.
Viewing and visitation will be today and Friday, 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City. As well as prior to services at the church on Saturday.
