FARIBAULT, Minn. -- Lawrence "Rex" Welborn, 82, died Sunday (Feb. 7, 2010), at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, in Faribault, Minn.

He was born April 7, 1927, at Lebanon, to Lawrence and Auretta (Daffer) Welborn. He attended Lebanon schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon graduation from high school.

He returned to Nebraska after being discharged and attended McCook Junior College and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He worked for the Nebraska Bureau of Reclamation until in 1957 he joined his uncle and nephew in founding Randy's Frozen Meats in Faribault, a wholesale meat company. He retired in December of 1987.

On Dec. 4, 1960, he married Marilyn Dierks at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Chokio, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; four children, Stacy Welborn of Litchfield, Minn., Jon and wife, Angie Welborn, Ellen and husband, Kris Paulson and Jay and wife, Diana Welborn, all of Faribault; two sisters, Leah Warner of Tampa, Fla., and Auretta Parker of Littleton, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault, Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a time of sharing at 7 p.m.
