DENVER, Colo. -- Louis Ferdinand Ostdiek, 82, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at St. Anthony Hospice in Denver, Colo.

He was born May 19, 1927 in Indianola to Ferdinand and Rose (Schutte) Ostdiek.

He spent two years in the U.S. Army.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 33 years; in McCook from 1953 -- 1965 and then moved his family to Northglenn, Colo., where he continued with Burlington Northern until his retirement.

On Aug. 28, 1950, he married Darlene Micek in Benkelman.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 56 years and was a member of the McCook council at the time the K.C. Hall was built.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Darlene of 56 years; sisters, Lorraine Stevens, Irene Reining and Roberta O'Leary and brothers, Walter, Alvin, Raymond and Gerald.

Survivors include his children, Connie and husband, Steve German of Tucson Ariz., Steve Ostdiek of Grand Lake, Colo., Gerald Ostdiek and wife, Sheila and Regina and husband, Don Ticknor all of Lakewood, Colo.; three sisters, Irma Johnson of McCook, who subsequently died Saturday (Jan. 30, 2010), Kathleen Ham of Benkelman and Yvonne (Johnny) Eggers of Salina, Kan.; one brother, J.D. and wife, Marilyn Ostdiek of Fresno, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Rosary and funeral Mass were Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Parish in Northglenn, Colo. Burial was at Olinger Highland Cemetery in Thornton, Colo.
