NPPD pursuing power purchase agreement with Broken Bow wind farm
COLUMBUS -- Nebraska Public Power District and Midwest Wind Energy/Edison Mission are currently pursuing a power purchase agreement that would result in the construction and operation of an 80 megawatt wind facility east of Broken Bow, with an expected operational date of September 2012.
In November 2008, NPPD issued a request for proposal calling for construction of an 80-megawatt wind farm in the Petersburg and/or Broken Bow areas. NPPD would then purchase the electricity generated at the wind farm through a power purchase agreement. More than 20 proposals were submitted by various private developers in April of 2009.
At the direction of NPPD's Board of Directors, proposals for a wind energy facility for the Petersburg and Broken Bow areas were both accepted. NPPD is currently completing negotiations on a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Midwest Wind Energy/Edison Mission that would have the Petersburg facility operating in 2010.
The addition of the Broken Bow site in 2012 will continue NPPD's strategic goal of having 10 percent of its energy portfolio come from new renewable resources by 2020.
