Vernice Eleanor (Harsh) LeMon

Vernice Eleanor (Harsh) LeMon, 92, died Monday (Jan. 18, 2010) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born on Easter, April 8, 1917, on the family farm seven miles southwest of Bartley, the daughter of the late J. A. and Anna (Bremer) Harsh. She graduated from rural school and Bartley High School where she was class valedictorian in 1933.
She attended Kearney Teachers College and taught for six years at rural schools in Bartley and McCook areas. She continued her education at North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn., where she was also class valedictorian in 1943.
On Oct. 27, 1943, she married Vernon LeMon at the Assembly of God Church in McCook. They celebrated 66 years last October at Hillcrest, where she resided for the past four years. She was a wonderful wife. For 33 years she worked with her husband in church service and helped in all areas of Vernon's Church work, she taught bible classes and especially enjoyed ministering to children in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and spent 29 years at Bella Vista, Ark. She retired in 1967 and traveled to many holy places in other countries before she moved to McCook in 2002.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Harsh, Rufus Harsh, Vernie Harsh and one sister, Lila Oxford.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon LeMon of McCook; nephews, Delwyn Harsh and wife, Sherry of Cambridge; Steven Harsh and wife, Karen of Okemos, Mich., Phillip Harsh and wife, Marti of Salida, Colo., Bleyn Oxford and wife, Arlene of Littleton, Colo., nieces Ruth McDowell of Pueblo, Colo. and Maurine Pecesky, many great-nieces and great-nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Interment will follow at the Bartley Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name and visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
