Janice Kay (Owens) Schnabel

TRENTON -- Janice Kay (Owens) Schnabel, age 65, passed away Oct. 5, 2009, at Community Hospital in McCook.
Janice was born May 1, 1944, to Dortha (Davis) and Melvin Owens at Atwood. Janice lived most of her life in Trenton, where she attended Trenton High School. Janice met her husband, Larry Schnabel at school and were school sweethearts in Trenton. She married him on July 20, 1961. To this union was born two daughters, Tami (Schnabel) Workman and Brenda Lee, who died at birth and one son, Troy Schnabel.
Janice was a nurse's aid in Wray, Colo., and also worked as a nurse's aid at El Dorado Manor in Trenton until retiring in April 2001. She was enjoyed by many of the home's residents. Janice enjoyed playing challenging hand puzzles and playing cards with family.
She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Brenda Lee; parents, Melvin and Dortha Owens; sister, Arlene Seybold; and brothers, Eugene and Dean Owens.
Janice is survived by her husband, Larry Schnabel of Trenton; daughter, Tami and husband, Steve Workman of St. Francis; son, Troy and wife, Chris Schnabel of Fremont; grandchildren, Beau Workman, Tanya and Matt Schlepp, Darren and Kodi Workman and Sydney, Jordan and Zack Schnabel; great-grandchildren, Bailey Workman, Maci Workman; sisters, Geraldine Slater and husband, Dennis of Trenton and Linda Cook and husband, John of Trenton; and relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at United Methodist Church in Trenton with the Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be given in her name and friends may sign her register at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton.
