WAUNETA -- Russell Wayne Thompson, 42, died Monday (Sept. 21, 2009) at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.

He was born Aug. 30, 1967, at Longview, Texas to Riley H. and Betty J. (Hancock) Thompson. He grew up and attended school in Texas.

He worked for Titan Industries in Paxton. On March 4, 2000, he married Michelle Dundee at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. They lived in Ogallala and near Grant before he was severally injured in an auto accident in June of 2002.

He spent rehabilitation time in Lincoln and Fullerton. He then moved to Heritage of Wauneta Care Facility in Wauneta to be closer to family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Riley Sr.; grandparents, Louise Thompson, Charles Thompson, Ruby Hancock and Jim Hancock.

Survivors include his step-mother, Dorothy Thompson of Kingman, Ariz.; ex-wife, Michelle Thompson of Ogallala; son, Riley Wayne Thompson of Ogallala; step-daughter, Emily Mau; step-son, William Mau of Ogallala; brother, Riley Thompson Jr. and wife, Margaret of California; sisters, Laurinda Stallings of Wichita, Kan., and Kathy Hughes Zuidema and husband, Travis of South Dakota.

His body was cremated. A private family service will be Saturday.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
