Letter to the Editor

Conservation key

Monday, August 31, 2009

Dear Editor,

The political discussions surrounding the proper usage of water, both surface and ground, seems to carefully avoid the core issue.

We, as water users, no matter for what purpose, need to use management tools that have but one goal; to maintain sustainability of the water supplies nature provides.

We need to implement water management systems that will, to the best of our ability, provide the resource into the future for our next generations to use and conserve.

We have not been doing this up to this point. Our NRD boards need to "bite the bullet" and implement management rules that promote sustainability and put aside personal interests.

The attitude that the State of Nebraska, the State of Kansas, or some other influence will steal a resource that must be shared is not the issue.

That each of us, as water users, which we ALL are, need to be responsible conservators, is the issue.

Respectfully,

W. Owen Elmer

  • Thank you so much Owen. Ever think about getting into politics again?
