Mayor looking for a few good men and women to serve on city committees
Mayor Dennis Berry is seeking community-minded citizens willing to serve on city committees.
Berry noted at the regular city council meeting Monday night that several appointments are coming up on committees and asked city staff and council members for recommendations.
From the consent agenda, the council approved the appointments to the Health Board, re-appointing Kurt Fritsch, Isaac Brown, Dennis Berry, Dr. Richard Klug and Mary Beth Eisenmenger, terms expiring June, 2010.
Other items the council approved on the consent agenda were:
* approve the request from the McCook Area Chamber of Commerce for the use of Norris Park and city streets for the annual Heritage Days celebration, set for Sept. 26-27. A "Deal or No Deal" activity will be at Norris Park Thursday, Sept. 24.
* the application for a special designated liquor license submitted by the McCook Chamber of Commerce for the Heritage Days mixer at McCook National Bank on Sept. 23.
A public hearing was also conducted Monday night, for a special exception sought by Gary Hinz.
Hinz, a commodities broker and owner of Agri-Marketing Services, would like to purchase a home at 116 South Street where he would operate his business office.
The area is zoned residential medium density mobile home and professional offices are allowed by special exception.
Hinz is currently leasing office space and plans no structural changes at the house, other than a two by eight foot sign on the front lawn or on the front deck of the house. He told the council he anticipates about three to five clients a day, usually between 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
The council unanimously approved the special exception.
