IMPERIAL -- Robert Tigner joined the West Central District staff as extension educator for the southwest four counties Chase, Hayes, Dundy and Hitchcock, starting in March.

Tigner said he will specialize in extension education and focus initially on the 2008 Farm Bill, since producers must sign up for the Average Crop Revenue Election -- ACRE -- program by Aug. 14.

He comes from Iowa State Extension where he was a farm management field specialist in northeastern Iowa. He covered a large territory there and he likes the Southwest Four position because the area is smaller and he can work more closely with individual producers.

Tigner grew up on a small dairy farm in central Iowa. After earning a bachelor's degree in animal science from Iowa State University, he returned to the farm. Later, he earned his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville and worked for UW for about three and a half years.

Tigner and Extension Educator, Brian Strauch, from Red Willow County have planned several meetings in June to help farmers decide whether to enroll in the new Average Crop Revenue Election program under the 2008 Farm Bill.
