Curtis Community Center benefit set for May 30

Friday, May 15, 2009

CURTIS -- The Maywood-Curtis-area native who donated generously to the construction of the Curtis Memorial Community Center will be in Curtis Saturday, May 30, for the first benefit for the center that was dedicated in September 2008.

In 2006, Dr. George Garlick of Richland, Wash., donated a gift of more than $1 million to the center's construction fund in honor of his parents, Guy Bryan and Irene Garlick. Dr. Garlick will be present for the benefit and honored for his support of the community center and Curtis.

Benefit organizers plan a social hour, silent and live auctions and dinner for the evening, which has the theme of "A Night on the Town."

The "Volunteer of the Year" and a posthumous character and integrity award will be presented; honorees will be inducted into "The Memorial Room."

Organizers are asking for donations for the auctions. Please contact Marilyn Pilcher (308) 367-5416, Sandy Stencel (308) 367-4110, or Jon Schroeder (308) 367-4141, to make donations of the donor's choice or from a list of items that are needed, or for more information.

Schroeder asked residents to mark the date on their calendars. "It will be a special night for Curtis and our Community Center," he said.
