E-F, Southwest, Arapahoe tracksters compete at Elwood

ELWOOD -- Eustis-Farnam, Southwest and Arapahoe high school track teams competed in the Elwood Invitational Friday.

Eustis-Farnam's girls finished third in the team scores, while the boys were eighth.

Andrea Werth led the Knights in the girls division with three first place medals. Werth won the 400M dash in 1 minute 2.3 seconds, the 100M high hurdles with a time of 17.70 seconds and the 300M low hurdles in 50.80.

Teammate Jacey Schultheiss won the high jump with a 5 foot jump and was second in the 300M low hurdles with 53.3. Werth and Schultheiss joined Ashley Ferrell and Katie Fagot to win the 1600M relay with a time of 4:27.40.

The Knights took fourth in the boys 400M relay and sixth in the 1600M relay. Dylan Koch finished second in the shot put for the Knights with a throw of 44 feet.

Cathy Paulsen took home two first place wins for Arapahoe's girls. Paulsen won the 3200M run with a time of 13:10.9 and the 1600M run in 5:58.3. Arapahoe took seventh in the girls division.

The Warriors took 10th in the boys team standings. Scott Maclane and Dustin Park earned top five finishes for the Warriors. Maclane took third in the 3200M run with a time of 11:13.4 and was fourth in the 1600M run in 4:57.2. Park took fourth in the high jump in 5-8.

Southwest's girls took eighth and the boys were ninth in the team scores. Taylor Brooks and Candace Malleck led the girls team. Brooks took second in the 3200M run in 13:52.6 and fourth in the 1600 with 6:23.6. Malleck finished second in the 100M high hurdles with a time of 18.1 and was third in the 300M low hurdles with 53.8. The girls relay team finished fourth in the 3200M relay with a time of 11:28.

Robert Proud finished in the top six of three events for the Roughriders. Proud took fourth in the 200M dash with 24.2, sixth in the 100M dash with 12.1 and tied for fifth in the 400M dash with a time of 55.0.

Josh Gates took sixth in the 3200 with 12:07 for the Roughriders and Kaleb Nielsen-Sheffield was third in the 300M intermediate hurdles with a time of 45.8. The boys relay team took fifth in the 3200 with 9:44.2.

Wauneta-Palisade girls, Hayes Center boys 2nd at Sutherland meet -- Wauneta-Palisade's girls and Hayes Center's boys track team took home second-place team finishes in the Sutherland Booster Club Invitational Saturday.

Hayes Center won six of the 17 events. Brian Christner earned two gold medals for the Cardinal Christner took the 100M dash in 11.03 and the 200M dash with 23.18. He also won the first place medal in the 4x100M relay along with Tanner Dow, Luke Clifford and Jack Loomis.

Matt Gohl won the 110M hurdles for the Cardinals with a time of 16.26 and Heath Vrbas took the shot put with a throw of 41-11. Travis Garrett won the discus with 126-9.5.

Hayes Center's girls took 10th in the team standings. Halsie Large finished third in the 200M dash with 28.15 and was fourth in the 100 with 13.5. Large also took third in the long jump with a distance of 14-10 and Katie Schwenk was sixth in the shot put with 30-9.5.

Blair Dixon and Dawnta Harchelroad led Wauneta-Palisade's girls in the running events. Dixon earned two first place medals, taking the 400M dash in 1:04.6 and the 100M hurdles in 17.0. Dixon also took third in the 100 with 13.1 and was second in the 200 with 27.52. Harchelroad finished second in the 800M run with 2:51.8 and was third in the 400 with 1:09.1. Harchelroad also took third in the high jump with 4-8.

Shelby Hamilton took a second and third place medal for the Broncos. Hamilton finished second in the discus with 115-0.75 and was third in the shot put with 31.6. Brandi Fanning joined Hamilton in the discus, taking third with a throw of 95-10.25.

Wauneta-Palisade's boys finished fourth in the team standings. Cody Fanning led the Broncos with a win in the 400M dash with 53.8 and was second in the 200 with 23.35 and the 100 with 11.04.

Fanning joined Myles West, Drew Harris and Dustin Nordhausen for a second place finish in the 4x100M relay with a time of 47.88. West, Nordhausen and Brendan Geier and Colby Skelton took fifth for the Broncos in the 4x400 relay.

Chris Bartels took third in the 1600M run with a time of 5:12.42 for the Broncos and Justin Haskins was fifth in the discus with 107-11. Drew Harris finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 32-8.25.

Hitchcock County's girls ended the day in fifth place and the boys were seventh. Jaci Wright took home a first place finish for the Falcons in the pole vault. Her vault was 7-8.

Laramey Lewis took third in the triple jump with 29-7.5 and was sixth in both the 100 and 200M dash. Jacee Kershaw took third in the 100M hurdles with 18.4 and was second in the 300M hurdles with 54.8. The Falcons team of Kershaw, Wright, Lewis and Laura Miller was third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 55.88 and the team of Kristin Craw, Paige Jones, Tiffanie Randall and Rebekah Lewis took third in the 4x800 with 13:00.3.

Cale Brown earned a silver medal for the Falcon boys in the pole vault with 9-4 and was sixth in the 800 with 2:28.2. Zach Cruz finished sixth in the long jump with 17-1.25, was third in the 300M hurdles with 45.45 and took fifth in the 110M hurdles with 18.0. The team of Cale Brown, Clive Brown, Devin Watkins and Schyler Parde was fourth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.72.

Wallace's girls finished in fourth place overall, while the boys were fifth. Jackie Griffiths won the 800M run for Wallace's girls. Griffiths time was 2:40.9. Griffiths also earned a gold medal in the 4x400 relay with Laura O'Brien, Katie West and Whitney Smith with a timeof 4:45.03. The four girls also won the 4x800 relay with 11:46.6.

Brooke Hochstetler took second in the shot put with 32-0 and was fourth in the discus with 94-7. O'Brien was second in the triple jump with 30-0 and West was fourth with 4-6 in the high jump.

Sean May finished second in the 400M dash and was third in the 100 and 200 for Wallace's boys.

May's time was 11.47 in the 100, 24.38 in the 200 and 53.9 in the 400. Shawn Christensen finished fourth in the long jump with 17-4.5 and was fifth in the shot put with 38-10.
