WAUNETA -- Daniel Liebig, 85, died Sunday (Dec. 14, 2008) at Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 14, 2008, in Platte Center to Adolph and Mary Liebig. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School. After completing his sophomore year in high school, he began farming full-time on the family farm.
On June 14, 1949, he married Joanne Weston in Sutton. He moved to a ranch in Wauneta in 1953 and his family joined him in January 1954. He was a farmer and welder and raised cattle and wheat during his 65 years of farming and ranching.
He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and St. John's Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Mary Liebig, five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Wauneta; sons, Thomas Liebig of Littleton, Colo., and Paul Liebig of Kearney; daughters, Mary Kay Lauher of Beaumont, Texas and Rosanne Benzel of Waynesville, Mo.; sisters, Elizabeth Egger of St. Edward and Lillian Cucarola and husband, Joe of Sterling, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10 a.m. (MT) at St. John's Catholic Church of Wauneta with the Rev. Val Bartek officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery at Wauneta.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 - 6 p.m. (MT) at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta with a rosary being recited Wednesday at 7 P.M. (MT) at the church.
A memorial has been established to the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home.
