St. Pat's boys open season 1-2

The McCook St. Patrick's Knights boys basketball A and B teams started the season with a 1-2 record.

The Knights A team lost to Oberlin 40-21.

Josh Escher led McCook with 11 points, followed by James Kain with 8 and Bryce Dame 2.

The St. Pat's B team lost 32-6.

Jonathon Spilinek, Wesley Burkert and Colton Sis each scored 2 points.

"The boys played hard," St. Pat's coach Tony Spilinek said. "We have a young team and they will do nothing but get better.

The Knights A team lost to Atwood 43-36.

Jonathon Spilinek led St. Pat's with 10 points, Josh Escher added 7, Steven Faiman 6, Kolton Stone 6, Peyton Stagemeyer 4 and James Kain 3.

The Knights B team lost 40-24.

"It was a very rough game and we got in foul trouble at the end of the game," Tony Spilinek said. "In the B game, we played a lot of the younger players. They played very well, especially with their free throws."

The Knights picked up their first win against Maywood 38-12.

Josh Escher scored 13 points, Jonathon Spilinek 8, Steven Faiman 4, James Kain 4,Wesley Burkert 4, Peyton Stagemeyer 2, Stephen Kirk 2, and Kolton Stone 1.

Aaron Doxon, Jericho Vieyan and Clay Chittick each scored 4 points for Maywood.

"The boys played much better," Tony Spilinek said.

St. Pat's next A and B team games will be Jan. 15 at home against Hayes Center.
