MCC basketball teams open season this weekend at home

The McCook Community College men's and women's basketball teams start their 2008-09 seasons this weekend.

The MCC men open the season tonight with the MCC Merchant's Classic. Other team participating are Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture-Curtis, North Platte Community College and the William Penn College Junior Varsity.

NCTA plays NPCC at 6 p.m. tonight, followed by MCC against William Penn at 8 p.m.

Saturday, NPCC plays William Penn at 4 p.m., followed by MCC vs. NCTA at 6 p.m.

The MCC women host NCTA at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Brandon Lenhart coaches the MCC men and Benjamin Smith coaches the MCC women. Both are in their second seasons.

The MCC men's team finished the 2007-08 season with a 14-17 season. The Indians return three starters from last year's team -- sophomores guards Javoun Martin, Trey Mosby and Ronnell Grant.

The MCC women's steam returns six sophomore starters from a team that finished with a 7-24 record -- Kendra Knight, Bridgette Riddick, Heaven Johnson, Shanice Johnson, Ashley Foe and Ali Brickley.
