WAUNETA -- Doris Melano, 88, died Friday (Oct. 24, 2008) at Chase County Hospital in Imperial.

She was born Feb. 19, 1920, at Banfield, Argentina to Arthur William and Lillian (Hayes) Pearson. She grew up in Argentina, where she received her education.

On March 10, 1943, she married Charles Melano at Lomas de Zamora, Argentina. They came to the U.S. in 1947, where they received their citizenship. Her husband became a minister and served churches in Minnesota, New York, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, California and New Hampshire.

Following retirement they came to McCook where they resided at Willow Ridge Retirement Home in 2005. They moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in August of 2007 and later to Heritage Home of Wauneta.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Hurt.

Survivors include her husband, Charles of Wauneta; son, the Rev. Richard Melano and wife, Barbara of Denver, Colo.; and sister, Lorna Elder McLeod of Knoxville, Tenn.

No services are planned at this time, her body was cremated.
