Nine area teams make Nebraska state football playoffs; McCook to host Columbus Friday night

Nine area teams will compete in the Nebraska state football playoffs, which take place Thursday and Friday.

McCook made the playoffs in Class B, Cambridge, Chase County and Southwest in Class C-2, Eustis-Farnam, Medicine Valley and Arapahoe in Class D-1 eight-man and Wallace and Hayes Center in Class D-2 eight-man.

The McCook Bison (9-0) are the No. 1 seed in the Class B West Bracket and will host Columbus (5-4) in the first round Friday night at Weiland Field.

The NSAA made Alliance the No. 7 seed and Columbus the No. 8 seed based on the point system.

Kickoff at Weiland Field is 7 p.m.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children. No passes will be accepted.

McCook won the Class B-7 district title with a 21-0 win at Ogallala Friday night. The Bison went 3-0 in district play.

The other three teams in District B-7 also made the playoffs -- Holdrege (5-4), Lexington (6-3) and Ogallala (8-1).

Holdrege will play at Schuyler. Lexington will play at Aurora and Ogallala will host Alliance.

In addition to wins over Holdrege, Lexington and Ogallala, McCook has wins over Aurora and Alliance.

In the Class C-2 West Bracket, Cambridge (7-1) hosts North Platte-St. Pat's (4-4), Chase County (5-3) plays at Plainview (6-2) and Southwest (3-5) plays at Kearney Catholic (7-1).

In the Class D-1 eight-man West Bracket, Eustis-Farnam (7-1) hosts Newman Grove (5-3), Medicine Valley (6-2) hosts Axtell (5-3) and Arapahoe (4-4) plays at Clearwater-Orchard (7-1).

The Arapahoe/Clearwater-Orchard at Orchard starts at 3 p.m. Thursday.

In the Class D-2 eight-man West Bracket, Wallace (5-3) plays at Ansley (7-1) and Hayes Center (8-0) hosts Sumner-Eddyville-Miller (4-4) Thursday night.

Hayes Center is a No. 4 seed.
