Paxton takes RPAC crown

CAMBRIDGE -- Paxton High School captured the Republican Plains Association volleyball tournament title Tuesday in Cambridge.

Paxton pushed by Dundy County-Stratton in the semi-finals taking the Golden Plains division title before downing Southwest girls for the RPAC title.

Paxton was ranked No. 1 in the Golden Plains division.

Southwest's girls took the Republican Valley division title after defeating Bertrand n the semifinals.

"We played well in this match and got off to a great start," said Southwest coach Dennis Troester. "This win gave us the division championship."

Southwest was seeded second in the Republican Valley division.

Megan Conway put in 14 points for the Roughriders win and had 1 ace, 2 kills and 6 digs. Darcie Hayes added in 10 points with 2 aces, blocks and kills and 3 digs. Abby Houghtelling led in kills with 22 and Jordan Brooks had 11 digs. Mariah Longnecker had 29 assists and Houghtelling had 4 blocks and 2 aces.

Southwest came up short to Paxton in the finals 16-25, 15-25, 19-25. "We were totally taken out at our game, by an excellent team," said coach Troester. "Paxton played great defense and every hitter is a hammer. They certainly were the best team tonight."

Houghtelling posted 8 points for the Roughriders and had 3 aces, 3 blocks, 2 digs, 1 assist and 12 kills. Brooks led in digs with 7 and Longnecker had 18 assists ad 5 digs.

Dundy County-Stratton took third place in the RPAC tournament. The Tigers defeated Bertrand in three sets. The Tigers were number 2 in the GP division and Bertrand was number 1 in the RV side.

Eustis-Farnam 2-0 at home -- Eustis-Farnam's volleyball team went 2-0 in their own triangular Tuesday.

The Knights defeated both Sumner-Eddyville-Miller and Overton.

Overton took out SEM in two sets.

Chase County falls -- Chase County's volleyball team came up short to Hershey Tuesday at Imperial.

The Longhorns lost 22-25 19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 13-15.
