MCC coach starting club volleyball program

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

McCook Community College volleyball coach Gary Payne is starting a club volleyball program here in McCook for age groups ranging from 12-year-olds to 18-year-olds.

There will be a meeting at MCC's True Hall Gym Monday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. This will not be a practice night -- just a meeting.

Coaches for these teams will be Payne, players from the MCC volleyball team and Ashley Malleck.

The fee to be in the club is $300 -- $50 which will be used for registration with the Great Plains Region Office and $250 goes to the club.

Half the money is due at the first practice and the other half is due before the first tournament.

Payne said there are plans to go to five or six tournaments in Kearney, Hastings and Grand Island starting sometime in the middle of January.

"We are planning on having practice two times a week, depending on location and time availability," Payne said. "The name of the club has not been established as of yet, but will be soon.

"We are trying to keep the name away from being associated with any of the surrounding schools or towns, so that it doesn't discourage any girls who are interested in playing."

For more information, contact Payne at (308) 345-8188.
