The McCook Junior High School's 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams battled it out with Ogallala, Lexington and North Platte last week.

The eighth grade girls played North Platte St. Pats Thursday, going 1-2. The Bison lost 32-16 in the A game and 10-5 in the C game. The Bison took the B game 13-12.

"We will keep working on basic basketball fundamentals that we need to improve upon before an offense can begin to take shape," said Bison coaches Steve Clapp and Tom Lentz.

Rachel Bradley scored 9 points for the Bison in the A game and Taylor Hansen had 3. Jenna Smith led the team in the B game with 9 points and both Betsy Hardin and Madison Koepke had 2. Amanda Brush put in 3 points and Koepke had 2 in the C team game.

The eighth grade team plays Gothenburg on Tuesday.

McCook's seventh grade girls went 5-0 against Ogallala and Lexington. The Bison won the A game against Ogallala 13-7 and the B game 17-4. On Thursday the Bison team won over Lexington 38-19 in the A game, 15-4 in the B game and 24-2 in the C game.

Megan Ruppert led the Bison against Ogallala A with 4 points and Madison Chitwood and Kassidy Gillen teamed up with 3 each. Miranda Holliday led the B team game with 7 points and Jamii Cole had 4.

"The girls played very aggressive on both ends of the court," said Bison Coach Michelle Reiners. "They played well especially on the defensive end as they caused many turnovers which gave the offense opportunities to score."

Rachel Goltl totaled 13 points against Lexington's A team Thursday. Ruppert followed with 8 points and Brooklyn Trew and Gillen added in 6 points each.

Haley Durham put in 5 points and Jamii Cole had 4 in the B team game for the Bison against Lexington.

Durham scored 12 points in the C game and Sara Larington added in 5 points.

"The girls played especially well on the defensive end," said Coach Reiners. "Our guards had several steals in all three games. Offensively, the girls did a good job feeding our posts the ball, and taking good outside shots by the guards."

The seventh grade girls finish the season on Tuesday hosting Gothenburg.
