Strong team effort helps Southwest volleyball team against Swedes

SOUTHWEST -- The Southwest High School volleyball team pummeled the Gothenburg Swedes in three sets of volleyball Friday 25-18, 25-10, 25-7.

"We played well rebounding from Tuesday night's loss (to McCook)," said Southwest volleyball coach Dennis Troester. "Everyone contributed."

Kelsey Coolidge served 13 points, had 3 aces and 12 digs for the Roughriders. Morgan Potthoff added 10 points, 1 ace and 25 assists.

Lisa Lord had 12 kills and 3 blocks and Ashley Weaver had 7 kills. Lord and Weaver served 7 points.

Hayes Center falls to Hitchcock County -- Hayes Center fell in three sets to Hitchcock County Thursday 25-18, 25-14, 25-19.

"The girls played aggressive defense and continue to progress overall," said Cardinals Coach Lindsey Jorgensen.

McKenzie Messersmith, Heather Mugrage and Josie Rosno led the Cardinals in serving.

Messersmith had 3 aces and Mugrage had 1. Rosno was 6 for 6. Messersmith also led in assists with 14 and Rosno had 12 digs.

Katie Schwenk had 4 assists and Sam Deaver had 3 kills and 6 ace blocks. Becca Gigax led in kills with 17 and Morgan Picket had 5 digs.

Southern Valley drops pair -- Southern Valley played Alma and Minden Thursday. The Eagles fell to Minden 25-16, 25-12 and Alma 25-9, 25-13.

Cassie Brooks led the Eagles totaling 7 points against the two teams. Brooks also had 6 digs and 3 blocks.

Justine Snider had 4 points and Berretta Meyers had 4 digs against Alma. Hennessey Hogeland had 3 blocks and 5 kills and Allison Hunt had 3 kills.

Maywood outlasts Brady -- Maywood struggled with Brady Thursday but posted a 25-14, 21-25, 20-25, 25-11, 15-4 win.

Staci Koester posted 12 points and 3 aces and Kadee Arensdorf had 11 points and 8 aces.

Melody Norgaard added in 10 points and 2 aces. Arensdorf also had 20 assists and Brooke Koester had 12 assists, 9 kills and 14 digs.

Susan Koester led in kills with 11 and had 18 digs. Michelle Hastings led in digs with 20 and had 8 kills.

Perkins County wins -- Perkins County downed Sutherland Thursday 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23.

Carlie Sis and Debi Johnson led the team in kills. Sis put in 13 kills and 16 blocks and Johnson had 25 kills, 4 ace blocks, 10 blocks, 2 aces and 12 digs.

Jenni Sis had 13 digs and 5 blocks and Brittany Ross had 6 kills, 12 blocks and 5 aces. Tiffany Dahlkoetter led in blocks with 19 and had 4 ace blocks and Mackenzie Hite had 43 assists.
