Gary Dark (left) and Jason Hicks of "The Blue Canyon Boys," from the Front Range of Colorado, perform during Haigler's sixth annual "Bluegrass Breakdown" Sunday. The band also features Jeff Scroggins on the banjo and Drew Garrett on the bass. The band's debut CD, "Just an Ol' Dirt Road" includes "Jesse James" and "Are You from Dixie?," songs they performed in Haigler. Also on the show bill for the Breakdown -- which attracted hundreds of listeners to the shade in the park -- was "The McLemore Family" from Colby, Kan., and "The Bluegrass Sheiks," another Front Range bluegrass favorite. The Breakdown is sponsored by "HIC" (Haigler Improvement Committee) and the Nebraska Arts Council.

We happened to catch part of the "festival" on our way back from Cheyenne, WY and were very impressed with the music. We had never attended before. It was amazing to see the large crowd that enjoyed the "festival" and there was some darned good food to be had also. We plan on going to it next year only we will take along a lawn chair or two to sit on!!
