Russell Fanning

June 28, 1919 - July 13, 2007

WAUNETA -- Russell O. Fanning, 88, died Friday (July 13, 2007) at Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home.

He was born June 28, 1919, on the family farm near Wauneta to Clarence and Della (Hanna) Fanning. He grew up in the Wauneta area and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1937.

On March 4, 1944, he married Viola Green. They lived and farmed north of Wauneta, before retiring to Wauneta proper in 1979.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Larry, and five brothers, Virgil, Faye, Ed, Jim and Jerry.

Survivors include his wife, Viola of Wauneta; son, Lynn and wife, Charlene of Centennial, Colo.; sisters, Donna Applegrath and husband, Paul of Palisade and Eunice Bodeman of Wauneta; four grandchildren; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. (MT) at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta, with the Rev. Kay Alnor officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 6 p.m. (MT) at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.

Memorials may be given to the Bronco's Booster Club, Wauneta-Palisade High School.
