OBERLIN -- Virgil Hoppas, 90, died Thursday (July 12, 2007) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

He was born Aug. 2, 1916, on a farm northwest of Dresden to Tolle Hoppas and Janie (Penn) Hoppas. He was raised on a farm south of Oberlin and attended Summit School and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1935.

On Jan. 1, 1939, he married Grace Castle. He was a farmer and worked as an electrician.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace on Aug. 17, 2002; son, Stephen Hoppas; daughter-in-law Jean Ann Hoppas; and two sisters, Estel Macy and Nellie White.

Survivors include a brother, Clarence Hoppas of Oberlin; a brother-in-law, Walter and Joanne Castle of Oberlin; a sister-in-law, Opal Bryan of Oberlin; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Burial will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday, 10 a.m., until the time of the service.

Memorials may be given in his name.
