Brandon Crick advances to round of 32 at Nebraska Match Play
LINCOLN -- Gonzaga University sophomore-to-be Brandon Crick of McCook advanced to the Round of 32 Wednesday at the 2007 Nebraska Match Play Championship golf tournament.
The Round of 32 took place this morning and the Round of 16 was slated for this afternoon. The tournament will conclude Saturday at Hillcrest Country Club in Lincoln.
Crick fired an even-par 72 Tuesday in stroke play competition to advance to match play. In the first round of match play Wednesday, Crick defeated Omaha's Paul Estep 9 and 7.
In the Round of 32, Crick's opponent is Lexington's Nate Jaeger. They teed off at 8:26 a.m.
Jaeger defeated Lincoln's Spencer Hilsabeck 3 and 2 in the first round of match play.
Defending champion Patrick Duffy of Omaha advanced to the Round of 32 with a 1 up victory over Omaha's John Rasmussen. Duffy will play Mike Krumland of Columbus, who advanced after his 2 up victory over Creighton Prep graduate Noah Sterba.
O'Neill's John Hurley defeated last year's runner-up John Sajevic of Fremont 3 and 2. He will face 2007 Nebraska Junior Match Play runner-up Mike Coatman, who defeated Omaha's Colin Carlson.
Dolores Wiemers wins 3rd flight
title at NWAGA Eastern Championship
ASHLAND -- Dolores Wiemers of Ewing and formerly of McCook won the Third Flight title Tuesday at the Nebraska Women's Amateur Golf Association Eastern Stroke Play Championship.
The tournament was played at the Ashland Country Club
Wiemers, the mother of Omaha professional golfer Chris Wiemers, a McCook High School alum and 2006 John Mullen Pro-Am winner, posted a 36-hole score of 192.
