Dundy County boys, Oberlin girls claim Rawlins County Invitational team titles
GOODLAND, Kan. -- The Decatur Community-Oberlin golf team placed sixth and the Rawlins County-Atwood squad was 11th at the Goodland Invitational Tuesday.
Oberlin posted a 385 score and Rawlins County 436 in the 12-team tournament.
Hays won the tournament with a 368 score, edging out Goodland and Thomas More Prep by one stroke.
Ulysses placed fourth with a 373 score, followed by Hoxie 374 and Colby 378. Norton was eighth with a 400 score, followed by Quinter 408 and Scott City 432. Oakley placed 11th at 476.
Oberlin was paced by Jobey Black with a 92, followed by Breck Simonsson 93, Andy Gilliam 100, Corey Cook 100, Jordan Tally 105 and Nathan Simonsson 110.
"It was a tough day and we did not play very well," said Oberlin golf coach Dick Ahlberg. "Seriously, I have never seen so many tumbleweeds.
"We don't have time to dwell on our first meet. We have a busy week ahead of us. I just hope we can catch a little good weather to practice."
The Red Devils host the Oberlin Invitational at 9 a.m,. Saturday at the Oberlin Country Club and competes at the McCook Invitational next Tuesday.
The Red Devils compete at the Hill City Invitational April 20.
