Bison girls teams split with Ogallala

OGALLALA -- The McCook High School varsity and junior varsity girls basketball teams split games at Ogallala Friday night.

The Bison varsity girls lost to the Indians 69-49 and the JV girls won 64-28.

The McCook varsity and JV girls hit the road this weekend for the East-West Shootout. The Bison play at Alliance Thursday, Scottsbluff Friday and Gering Saturday.

Austin Wilson scored a season-high 14 points to lead the Bison varsity. Taryn Placzek scored 7 and Melissa Lyster 6. Lindsey Hazlitt and Betsy Kohmetscher each had 5.

Hazlitt and Placzek each had 5 rebounds for the Bison, followed by Wilson with 4. Joanna Bryant and McNutt each had 1 assist. Wilson had 4 steals, Hazlitt 3 and Ashley Carfield 2.

Steph Max scored 22 points for Ogallala, Amber Max 14 and Candace Ewert 10.

Brianna Watkins poured in 20 points for the Bison JV girls, including a 10-for-11 effort at the free throw line. Hanah Swanhorst added 9 points, Kelsee Meissner 7, Joanna Bryant 6 and Tara Powell 6.

Swanhorst, Shelby Woitaszewski and Watkins each had 4 rebounds. Powell had 7 steals, Kali Lyons 4 and Swanhorst 4.
