Area grapplers compete at NP Irish invite

NORTH PLATTE -- Fifteen wrestling teams competed in the Irish invite in North Platte Saturday.

Anselmo-Merna won the event with Hershey coming in second and Southwest's wrestlings taking third.

North Platte St. Pats finished in fourth and Chase County and Dundy County were fifth and sixth. Cambridge finished just out of the top ten at the No. 11 spot and Bertrand was No. 12.

Chase County's Kevin Barnard earned the pinner award after making three pins in 4 minutes and 48 seconds. Andrew Younghans of Hershey won the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Barnard won the 140-pound weight division for the Longhorns and teammate Wade Courter was second in the 171-pound division. Lance Shifflet took home a first place medal in the 171 weight division for Cambridge.

Derrik and Dustin Bundy both won their 189 and 285 divisions for Dundy County and teammate Steven Sander finished second in the 135. Kyle Teel took home a first place medal for Southwest. Heath Teel and Josh Gates both took second place and Brett Longnecker finished third in their divisions.
