GPAC Tournament: Broncos hammer Med Valley

BENKELMAN -- The Wauneta-Palisade Bronco boys hammered Medicine Valley 86-12 Wednesday night in the Golden Plains Activities Conference Tournament.

Wauneta-Palisade is the No. 1 seed and Medicine Valley is the No. 9 seed in the GPAC tourney.

The Broncos went in a half with a 44-5 lead and came back in the second half and outscored Medicine Valley 42-7.

Russell Ridlen led the assault on the Tigers netting 23 points, Marc Klima 17, Andrew Isom 14 and Taylor Dixon getting 10.

Matt Zysset scored 7 points for Medicine Valley.

Wauneta-Palisade will play Hayes Center, the No. 5 seed Friday, at 6 p.m. CST in Benkelman.

BENKELMAN -- Hayes Center the No. 5 seed blasted Arapahoe the No. 4 seed 80-48 Tuesday.

The Cardinals jumped out with a 41-22 lead at halftime.

"Tonight was the best team effort that we have had all season," Cardinal coach Louis Cuellar said. "We came out focused and really stepped up our defensive pressure which enabled us to get some easy baskets in transition.

"This game was a good confidence builder for us because Arapahoe had beaten us by two points earlier in the season. We now can look forward to playing two more games this weekend."

Levi Tyan paced the Cardinals with 26 points and 4 assists.

Justin Huss scored 12 points and Matt Gohl had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Adam Snyder and Dillon Breinig both had 12 points for the Warriors.

BENKELMAN -- Wallace the No. 3 seed edged Dundy County the No. 6 seed 47-43 in overtime Tuesday.

Dundy County led at half 22-12.

Wallace came back in the second half with 24 points to send the game into overtime.

Wiley Sowle scored 17 points to lead Wallace.

Kyle Glidden led the Tigers with 13 points. Jordan Stroup added 9.

Wallace, the No. 3 seed will take on Hitchcock County the No. 2 seed, at 7:30 p.m. CST Friday in Benkelman.

The Falcons went in at halftime with a comfortable 26 point lead.

Ten players scored for Hitchcock County with Austin Renfro getting 12 points and Josh Kershaw 10.

Tony Marquardt put up 13 points for the Roughriders.

split with Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG, Kan. -- Southern Valley's boys and girls basketball team battled it out with Phillipsburg on Tuesday.

The Eagles boys jumped out a 22-11 first quarter lead and defeated the Panthers 63-43.

The Southern Valley girls fell to the Panthers 50-38.

Taylor Lueking totaled 19 points for the Eagles win. Jared Maruhn followed with 13 points and Jacob Becker had 10.

Lueking also led the team in rebounds with 6 and Maruhn, Brock Einspahr and Cole Bergen had 4 each.

Jarrett Abell led Phillipbshurg with 16 points. Trent Weinman added 9 and Garrett Wickham 8.

The Southern Valley boys made 16-of-36 field goals (including 8-of-15 3-pointers) 7-of-11 free throws.

The Phillipsburg boys made 13-of-34 field (including 4-of-13 3-pointers) and 5-of-6 free throws.

Ashley Strickland and Mallory Murdoch led the Southern Valley Eagle girls in scoring with 10 points each.

Emily Witte and Hennessey Hogeland each scored 7 points.

Strickland put in 4 two-point shots and Hogeland had 3.

Murdoch and Witte each had 1 three-point shots and Alyssa Steele made 2 two-pointers.

Rexanne Schilowsky paced the Panther girls with 13 points. Jordan Rediger scored 12.

Lindsay Dusin and Brittni Robison each scored 8.

Phillipsburg outscored Southern Valley's girls 29-19 in the second half after leading 21-19 at halftime.

The Southern Valley girls made 10-of-18 free throws and Phillipsburg made 7-of-13.
