Jackilyn 'Jackie' McCarter

Jackilyn "Jackie" McCarter, 63, died Jan. 4, 2007, at Community Hospital in McCook.

She was born April 24, 1943, to Thomas and Georgina (Fyrer) Grant in Ontario, Canada.

She and her first husband, Harold 'Bud' Hunter, eventually settled in Lexington, where she was a dispatcher for the Lexington Police Department for 15 years.

She and her second husband, Charles 'Vern' McCarter, worked in motel management for more than 20 years in various states, most recently in Grand Junction, Colo.  Both retired from the motel business and pursued other opportunities, and she became a certified nursing assistant. They moved to McCook in May 2005 to be closer to family and she worked as a part-time CNA at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Grant Sr. and Georgina Grant; sister, Susan Grant; and ex-husband Bud Hunter.

Survivors include her husband, Vern McCarter of McCook; daughter, Dawn Marin and husband, Jesus of Carroll, Iowa; son, Gerry Hunter and wife, Deann of McCook; two brothers, Thomas Grant Jr. and wife, Ida Mae and Kevin Lee Grant of Canada;  one sister, Peggy Fecteau of Canada; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A service will be this spring in Lexington.

Her body was cremated.
