BENKELMAN -- Irene E. Thompson, 93, died Friday (Nov. 10, 2006), at the Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.

She was born July 23, 1913, at Haigler to Nate and Effie (Straw) Phifer.

On July 4, 1931, she married Murrell S. Thompson at St. Francis.  They lived on the Thompson ranch north of Haigler for a number of years and in 1948, they moved to Benkelman where Nate was employed by Youngtson Oil Company.

She was a homemaker and also cared for many elderly people in their homes.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Murrell Thompson; brother-in-laws, Clark Farlin, John Corder and Don Davis.

Survivors include her son, Eddie Thompson of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Clifford Phifer of  Arizona; sisters Velma Farlin of Coeur d'Alene Idaho, Lucille Corder of Haigler and Naomi Davis of Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman with Rev. Brian Fong officiating.  Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Memorials may be given in her name.
