George C Garcia, 71, died Monday (Oct. 30, 2006) at Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born at Bexar near San Antonio, Texas, on April 22, 1935. As a teenager he came to McCook in 1948, where he lived and worked on the Leonard Vontz farm.

On January 29, 1965, he married Angelita Ramos. In 1968, he worked as a welder for Harold Amann. In 1971, he and his family moved to Colorado where he worked as a farmhand until returning to McCook in 1981. For five years he worked in the painting department of Klein's Motor and Electric.

He was a family man who enjoyed fishing and barbequing and was a woodworker and enjoyed building model ships.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Angie of McCook; one son, George L. Garcia and wife, Tammera of Columbus, Mo.; two daughters, Tammy Harlan and husband, Kim of Grand Island and Rachel Blancas and husband, Alex of McCook; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Benny C. Garcia of McCook and Bob Garcia of Grand Island; relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with Father Lawrence officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in McCook.

Rosary is today at 7:30 p.m. at Herrmann Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call the funeral home until 9 p.m.
