OBERLIN -- Esther Miller, 96, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2006) at the Decatur County Hospital.

She was born in Norton, Kan., to Guy and Bessie (Venrick) Hix. She was raised in the Reager area and attended Reager School and Norcatur High School, graduating in 1927.

On Aug. 20, 1927, she married Weldon Miller in Norton. They farmed south of Norcatur until 1978, when they moved to Norcatur. She worked as a homemaker. In April 2006, they moved Wheat Ridge Terrace in Oberlin.

She was a member of the Norcatur Methodist Church, E.E. Club and local bridge clubs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Bessie; husband, Weldon; one daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter.

Survivors include her three sons, Richard and Venietta Miller of Mission, Texas, Gary and Annette Miller of Oberlin and Michael and Jan Miller of Prairie Village; one sister, Merle Shirley of Oberlin; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and seven-great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin, with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Norcatur Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Norcatur News Sheet, Norcatur Cemetery Fund and Norcatur.
