Cambridge spikers outlast Southwest
CAMBRIDGE -- Cambridge's volleyball team battled it out with Southwest in five close scoring sets on Thursday at Cambridge.
Cambridge won 27-25, 27-25, 12-25, 25-23.
Jenna Dietz and Frankie Petersen led the team in scoring. Dietz put in 13 points and Petersen had 12.
Katie McCurdy added in 10 points and had 10 assists and 4 digs. Petersen joined McCurdy with 16 assists and had 3 aces, 12 digs and 3 kills.
Kymbre Lytle led the team in digs with 18 and Shelby Schultz had 17 kills, 10 digs, 2 aces and 3 ace blocks.
Tracy Keyser put 15 digs and 8 kills.
Broncos beat Maywood
WAUNETA -- Maywood's girls volleyball team came up short against Wauneta-Palisade Thursday 25-15, 25-16, 25-10.
Maywood's JV team lost to the Broncos in two out of three sets 21-25, 25-20, 25-20.
Sausana Alberts, Myrah Brown, Gina Geier and Blair Dixon were the top scorers for the Broncos.
Alberts put in 20 points, had 7 ace serves, and 4 kills. Geier tallied 19 points, 1 ace, 12 assists and 1 kill.
Dixon added in 11 points, 1 ace block, 2 ace serves, and 3 kills. Brown had 10 points and 4 kills. Allison Ellicott joined Geier in assists with 10.
Kadee Arensdorf, Staci Koester and Susan Koester led the Maywood team in scoring.
Arensdorf had 2 aces and 2 points and Susan had 2 points and 1 ace. Staci put in 4 points and had 4 kills.
Michelle Hastings also had 4 kills. Arensdorf also led in assists with 7 and Desarae Messersmith had 3.
Perkins falls to CCHS
GRANT -- Perkins County's volleyball team fell to Chase County Thursday 25-19, 15-25, 25-16, 25-14.
Carlie Sis led the team in kills with 14, and had 2 ace blocks and 16 blocks. Sara Wilson put in 21 blocks and 7 kills. Debra Johnson had 8 kills and 14 blocks and Kylie Croup had 19 blocks. Mackenzie Hite led the team in assists with 24, along with Jessica Cornelius who had 13.
"Everyone did a nice job of attacking the ball," said Perkins County coach Renee Marquardt. "The first set wasn't as good offensively, but the second set made all the difference. Both teams played extremely hard, keeping the scores close."
