Matt Treinen

SIDNEY -- Matt Treinen, 79, a longtime Sidney resident, died Friday evening, July 28 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney.
Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Saint Patrick's Church in Sidney with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military graveside honors.
A Christian Wake service took place Monday evening at Saint Patrick's Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Leukemia Foundation or Cancer Research.
He was born July 18, 1927 at Sidney, the son of Mathias Joseph and Agnes (Mikkelsen) Treinen. He was raised and attended school in Sidney.
On May 2, 1949, he was married to Dorothy Catherine Koester. They had 7 children. Dorothy passed away on April 29, 1985. He later married Florence (Fries) Brounko on May 11, 1991 in Sidney. He lived in Sidney before moving to McCook, where he lived for 25 years.
The family also lived in Fort Morgan, Colo., Sterling, Colo. and Scottsbluff where he worked for Stickney's for 40 years. Following his retirement he moved back to Sidney and owned and operated a lawn mower repair shop.
He was a member of American Legion Post #17, Eagles, Elks, Jaycees and a member of St. Patrick's Church. He enjoyed fishing, his grandchildren and going to the Senior Citizen dances.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Dorothy; three brothers, Stanley, Clifton and Marion; three sisters, Lillian Hare, Evelyn Stueve and Alice Hare.
Survivors include his wife Florence of Sidney; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Debbie of College Station, Texas, Don and Sherry of Kearney, and Mark and Joni of Lincoln; daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Jim Decker of Benkelman, Kathy and Danny Knepp of Scottsbluff, Barb and Jim Kent of Benkelman, Marcia Steele of San Diego, Calif. and Amanda and Steve Wright of Walsh, Colo.; sister Bernice Zalesky of Sterling, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; many friends and family.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
