Reginald E. Stahly
April 25, 1915 to June 8, 2006
STRATTON -- Reginald E. Stahly, of Stratton, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton at the age of 91.
He was born April 25, 1915, at Barnard, Kan., to Albert and Josephine (Harbin) Stahly and moved with his family to the Stratton area as a young man. Reg graduated from Stratton High School in 1936.
On October 11, 1937, Reg was united in marriage to Violet M. Hussey at Julesburg, Colo., and to this union, a son, Richard, was born.
After marriage, Reg and Violet moved to Denver, Colo., for a few years where he worked as a cook at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. They returned to the family farm north of Stratton where they raised their son and farmed for many years.
In addition to farming, Reg sold farm equipment for both Miller Weeder and Miller Manufacturing for over 30 years. Reg loved the outdoors and enjoyed numerous fishing and hunting trips throughout Nebraska as well as Wyoming and South Dakota. He also enjoyed a good game of cards and was a skilled pool player in his younger years.
Reg and Violet moved from their home on the farm to Grandview Retirement Center in Stratton in the fall of 2004, and then to El Dorado Manor in Trenton during the winter of 2006. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church of Stratton.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Josephine Stahly; and one brother, George Stahly and wife, Helen.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 68 years, Violet Stahly of Stratton; his son, Richard Stahly and wife, Delores, also of Stratton; granddaughter, Elizabeth Maris and husband, Roger of Wauneta; grandson, Robert Stahly of Stratton; great-granddaughter, Erica Greene and husband, Aaron of Imperial; sister, Mildred Simmons and husband, Glen of Lincoln; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be Monday, June 12, 2006 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church in Stratton.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. (CDT) at Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Interment will follow services at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton.
Memorials may be given in his name to Grandview Retirement Center in Stratton.
